• Code Complete 
• The Mythical Man Month
• The Psychology Of Computer Programming 

And an honourable mention:

The Soul Of A New Machine

And a second honourable mention:

The Art Of Computer Programming

It's sad that these are older books. Where are the modern day equivalents?
